What AMP changes
AMP constrains components and resource loading. Standard pages can also be fast, and AMP can stand alone or coexist with another version. Google evaluates pages regardless of their technology; AMP has not been required for Top Stories since 2021.
Measure before changing the page
- Compare equivalent content and tasks on comparable devices and networks, including active third-party scripts.
- Use field data for LCP, INP and CLS. Lab tests help reproduce causes rather than represent every visitor.
- Size images, reserve their space and remove unnecessary JavaScript. Do not automatically lazy-load the main visual needed for initial display.
Decide on the complete journey
Test forms, keyboard navigation, consent and recovery after errors. If two versions coexist, check content parity, canonical links and maintenance effort. A better performance score does not establish higher sales or stronger attack resistance; measure those outcomes separately.
